Taking a look back at those years after 1997, when the sovereignty of Hong Kong was reverted back to our Motherland, China, Hong Kong, as a world class metropolitan city, had really gone through several critical challenges and economic downturns during the periods of financial crisis in November, 1997, then SARS in 2003, with the most recent one in August last year, as a result of the financial tsunami, which had caused an extremely serious and negative impact on the global economy.

When a high unemployment rate hit upon the working community of Hong Kong, in the face of a rapidly retrogressing market environment and economic recession, this had prompted the Hong Kong SAR Government as well as the people of Hong Kong to have a dawning of their minds in realizing what a crisis we are all being confronted with and to take decisive measures for remedies and improvements such as non-means education loans and staff re-training programmes in order to extend the life-long learning process for everybody and for continual self-improvement.

With all these in mind, it is also the primary goal and objective of this Centre to be fully determined to offer an incomparable and unparalleled quality of teaching and for courses, which we firmly believe, will enable all our students to achieve the purpose of a life-long learning process in search of excellence and for continual self-improvement, in order to be fully and much better equipped for better career prospects and to stand up to even more critical challenges in times ahead.

As a passing statement, I would like to wish our Centre and all our students a big success in their forthcoming endeavors.
